Used Books

bookfair1

Last weekend, the husband and I ventured out to a few book fairs. The largest, and my favorite, was the Friends of The Seattle Public Library's "mini" book sale. Their "mini" sales are three day events with a rotating selection of over 25,000 items.

We stopped by on the last day of the sale, Sunday, when everything just happened to be half off. As a notorious book hoarder, there are very few things in this world more exciting to me than the promise of a good book fair. The Friends did not disappoint. Amongst rows and rows of books new and old, I found a decent number of horror anthologies and a lot of used paperbacks by some of my favorite authors. I even managed to snag a few tomes that will make perfect gifts. I also found some great and weird picture books that I'm planning to share more of in time.

One of my absolute favorite novels ever - We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson

The Friends of The Seattle Public Library will be holding another mini sale the weekend of June 22nd-24th and will have their BIG sale September 14th-16th. Both sales will take place in Building 30 at Magnuson Park in Seattle, WA. The mini sale is in the workshop of the building and the mega sale takes over the entire airplane hangar.

I think I may need a few more bookshelves.

Flora

It's finally spring around here!

forgetmenot

Spring is my favorite of all the seasons. I've been busy planting flowers everywhere to celebrate.

I've loved gardening since I was a little little but this is the first year that I have had my very own garden.

I decided to plant rows of lavender outside of all our windows. Now, when we open them the smell of the flowers fills the house.

Show & Tell: Light Up Lisa Frank Journal

A true miracle.

I have been enthralled with Lisa Frank ever since I was a little girl, collecting the stickers and sending off letters to my pen-pals on dolphin stationary with rainbows and rainbow dolphins and dolphins riding on rainbows made of dolphins. What is it about this technicolored world that I still find ever so charming? Sure, at this point, nostalgia is a huge draw. But I think it has more to do with Lisa Frank's unique combination of complete unsophistication, unabashed cheer, utter ridiculousness, and total perversion. I mean, Hollywood Bear? Whatever it is, Lisa Frank just makes me happy. Truly, it makes me feel all sparkly inside.

I've even considered getting a Lisa Frank tattoo like this woman's unbelievable sleeve.

So, obviously, I think this Light Up Diary from Lisa Frank is pretty special. I'm keeping it as a radical self love journal, an idea I found through Gala Darling. I use it to collect quotes, little bits of inspiration, lists and thoughts that make me feel good and strong and hopeful. In it, I write about what I am proud of and grateful for.

As someone who has grappled a lot with the idea of self-worth, like most people I think, it is so powerful to have a place dedicated only to good thoughts and positivity, free of doubts, insecurities, or flagging confidence.

A few ideas from Gala Darling of things to put in your radical self love journal:

Bonus:

+ Lisa Frank Cookie Jar. I think I kind of need this.

Be seeing you.
